Well, the Kansas City Chiefs have FINALLY decided on who’s gonna be the new head coach (at least for this coming season). I’d like to extend a warm welcome to Todd Haley! Todd was formerly (this past season, actually) the offensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals. Remember those guys? They’re the ones that narrowly missed winning the SuperBowl, and from some accounts of a controversial call on a touchdown play, maybe should’ve actually won the game. Regardless, that’s history, and we’ve now got Mr. Haley packing up his stuff and family and house hunting here in Kansas City.
Personally, I think it’s a good move. The Chiefs need to rebuild, and with new GM Scott Pioli, and now Todd Haley, I’m hoping Mr. Hunt (the Chairman) will give them not only the authority, but the dollars to bring some real talent to the team and truly start that rebuilding process. Pioli and Haley worked together in New York (Jets) from 1997-1999, so they do have a history, and hopefully a shared vision for this sad Chiefs team. Let’s hope what Haley has done with the Cardinals in 2008 he can replicate with the Chiefs for the 2009 season. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
Of course, there are tons of other questions with the Chiefs, namely will our marquee players like Larry Johnson and Tony Gonzalez still be around come Spring training? Who knows? But, I think these two recent changes Mr. Hunt has made are a very good start – at least it’s something to hope for, right? What do you think? Leave me some comments and opinions.
